Wendy's VIII Begins; CCC Scores Victory!
Wendy's VII Top Section Champion Expert W.F. "Frankie" Newton II, Middle Section Champions David T. Richards & Jerome DeBell, Lower Section Champion Darrell "Flash" Gordon and twenty-six other jealous, would-be champions competed in Rd: 1 of Wendy's VIII on Wednesday evening.  {An enthusiastic sigh of relief throughout the croud was observed upon learning that USCF Technical Director Ernest Schlich has officially requested that a certain unwelcome intruder "not visit our club...until our dispute is resolved."}  Meanwhile, in the Top Section, Expert Frankie Newton (2155), fresh from last weekend's Fake Copper Blanket 1st Place victory, continued his winning ways with a win over Patrick McCartney (1763) while NM Daniel "Deep" Liu (2001) (See Game 0066) , Gary Branton (1863), and David T. Richards (1710) each won with White over David "the Bear" Griffin (1704), Paul Calloway (1701) and Hungarian Superstar Andras Bader (1670) respectively.  Also, in the Top Section, Paul Lucas (1668) perpetrated a mild upset with a Draw versus Justin Daniel (1921) while Tarokh Taefi (1745) has adjourned a favorable Queen vs. Rook & Bishop ending against NM Leland Fuerstman (2014).  In the Middle Section, CCC Website Advisor Carl McKern (1500) defended handily against Darrell Spencer (Unr) while Mike Isner (1485) upset Doug "REman" Millsaps (1631). In the Lower Section, wins were turned in by Joe Ulaky (724), Joe Feiler (1098), Ian Morton (Unr), Daryl Gordon (1268), James Ulaky (1113), Kevin Smith (877) and Helton Clavijo (1287).  For complete results see   Current Crosstable  See ya' Saturday at Midtown XXIII.

Newton Prevails Again In Midtown XXIII
Expert (and soon to be Master) William F. "Frankie" Newton II (2155) vowed not to take any "quick draws" the night before, but changed his mind at the last moment by issuing NM Daniel Liu a Rd:2 gratuity in order to save energy for his final round encounter with Expert Robert Spurrier. As it turned out, his strategy proved  correct sending the Local Champion back to Lincolnton with $80 cash. Finishing =2nd-4th were NM Leland Fuerstman (2018), NM Daniel Liu (2001) and Todd Trower (1887) each with 2-1 winning $13.33.  The Lower Section was dominated by Paul Jenkins (1505) with a perfect 3-0 winning $80.  Five players tied for 2nd-6th with 2-1:  Graydon Eggers, Sam Christopher, Lee Richardson, Pete Danker and Michael Brown winning $8. each.

We Were Wrong!?!
A few weeks ago, it was reported that Expert Frankie Newton had "probably" attained the necessary rating points required (2200) for the title of  National Master.  However, to date, his highest published rating is 2177.  Though his rating has slipped a bit in recent times, this author is certain that the day for official celebration will come, soon.  Go get 'em, Frankie!!
Newton Clear 1st In Fake Copper Blanket; T. Brown Sweeps Lower Section!
Team Charlotte kicked butt again last weekend as Expert Frankie Newton (2155) crusied into clear 1st Place with a final round Draw against Dr. Kenneth Ashkin (2020) to score 3.5-.5 and bring home "the bacon."  In the Lower Section, CCC Legal Advisor Terry Brown, Esq. (835) vowed to make "no mistakes" and won 4 consecutive games! to take clear 1st Place.  Congrats, guys.  Bring back those rating points!!
